Interpreting a painted canvas

You find a painted canvas and fall in love. You get it home and stare at it, thinking "Now what the heck do I do?" The good news: you really can't make a mistake--it's all a matter of interpretation! A case in point--my "In the Garden" egg.

The first photo is of the stitch-painted canvas.

The second photo is my model, which follows the original design. The third photo is courtesy of Pierrette Pattyn, who provided her version for the Guest Gallery on my website.

In stitching her version, Pierrette chose to eliminate the bunny, adding glorious flowers instead in silk ribbon embroidery. Then she added the bird and bee charms to make it her own.

The morale of the story: go with the flow in stitching a painted canvas--your interpretation may be better than the original!

Anne,

That was a canvas that I have really enjoyed stitching. This one turned out pretty good. I must have been inspired that day, which is not always the case unfortunately.

I remember the stitching on that one was not a straight line though. I stitching something and it jusy did not quite worked out as I wanted it. Oh yes, I remember now what it was, the grass in front of the fence. I started with a stitch that I thought would do the trick for the grass and it did look allright but then I added the flowers in silk ribbon and they just seem to float over the grass. Not good at all :-(

After scratching my head for a while I decided to add some french knots over my already stitched grass and it turned out that I really loved the look of that grass and the flowers looked more anchored.

It is too bad that I could not keep it for myself as I stitched for an Easter egg exchange and I had to part with it which was a very sad day (boohoo). You know the feeling when you somehow manage to stitch something that turns much better than you had anticipated, it then becomes very dear to you.

Looking at that photograph makes me realize that it has been a very long time since I have done any silk ribbon embroidery, something that I really enjoy doing. Will have to remedy that (grinning).

Thanks for the lovely surprise of adding it on your blog.

Pierrette did a gorgeous job on this - you have been "bested" for once. LOL This doesn't happen often.

This is really beautiful and the screen does not show how lovely it is.

What an interesting blog entry! I love seeing the same piece stitched two different ways. Very instructive! And both are beautiful.
